DOUGHTY, David Coatsworth. Pte 1063 4th Btn Yorkshire Regiment.
David Coatsworth was born in 1888, the second child of Christopher a bricklayer by trade and Tomasine Doughty and lived in Egglescliffe. In the 1891 census, Christopher was 29 and Thomasine nee Coatsworth 25. They lived with sons John William who was 5, David Coatsworth 3, Christopher just born and Robert Thomas Doughty, Christopher's brother aged 23 who was an agricultural labourer. By 1901 Robert Thomas had left and Christopher had died. The family had been increased by the birth of Rachel aged 8, Sarah Elizabeth aged 6 and Robert Thomas aged 5. By 1911 John William and Rachel had left, David had become a tinsmith, Sarah and Robert Thomas were still present and the family had been joined by Thomsine's sister Mary Bowland and Christopher's brother Robert Thomas who was now working as a groom had returned home.
